September 2023
To the Church Family at Faith Baptist Church; The new church year starts in September. What if in this coming church year, we as a church followed the two greatest commandments Jesus gave in Matthew 22:37-39? Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and the first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” First of all, love God. Be truly devoted to him. Worship him in private and in public worship services. Obey what he teaches in his word. Live out everything in your life in a way that you know is pleasing to him. Love him because he first loved you. Love him because he sent Jesus to die in your place. Love him because he is the only One who can give you a lasting hope and future. Love him because he is your heavenly Father who provides for you, cares for you, corrects you, guides you, and protects you. Too many of us have lost our first love. To really love God we must not just say we love God, but also live like we do love him. Second, love your neighbor as yourself. That means you will love other believers. You will want to be with them for worship, Bible study, and for just being together and enjoying one another. You will pray for and assist one another as necessary. You will also respond to anyone in need, whether fellow church members or not, with whatever assistance you can give. That is what Jesus taught in the parable of the Good Samaritan. To really love our neighbor as ourself, we must not just say we love him or her, but to help. John the disciple said in 1 John 3:18, “. . . let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” What would happen in our church and community if we really loved God and really loved our neighbor? I would like to share with you about two things coming up in September. We will be collecting the Janie Chapman Offering for State Missions. This offering goes through the South Carolina Baptist Convention to meet mission needs right here in our own state. Beginning on September 17, I plan to do a series of sermons on the Psalms. No, I am not going to preach a 150-sermon series on the Psalms, just selected ones: 1, 8, 19, 23, 34, 37, 40, and 51. The Psalms give us wisdom, help us focus on our Creator, tell of his care for us, lead us to thanksgiving, and help us deal with our sin. Come and let God speak to your needs and to your heart through the Psalms. Your pastor, Ken Harmon Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes Please continue to pray for the children who receive the shoeboxes and the “Greatest Journey booklet; that they and their families will come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.
