December Newsletter

To the Church Family at Faith Baptist Church;
            The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:15 said, “Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!” Of course, he was speaking of the gift of Jesus. Jesus is God’s indescribable gift to us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son . . . .”
Christmas is a time when we think of giving gifts. You might already be working on your wish list (what you want to receive) and your gift list (what you plan to give). If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus, if you have him in your life, then you have already received the best gift ever given.  Along with him has come forgiveness, eternal life, and his presence and help in life now. It is impossible to express how wonderful such a gift is.
            Since Jesus, God’s gift to you, has done so much for you, is he on your gift list? What are some things you think Jesus would like for Christmas from you?  Here are some gift suggestions:  your presence in his house to worship him, speaking to him daily in prayer and  listening to him during your prayer time and as you read the Bible, showing kindness to your family, church family, and others, personally telling others what he means to you, and supporting those who go as missionaries to spread the gospel around the world.  I believe he will be pleased to receive any of these gifts and others like them.
            During December our church receives donations for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missionaries.  This offering raises approximate one half of the funds needed to keep our 3,000+ international missionaries on the mission fields.  Most of the other funds come through the Cooperative Program.  Our church goal is $2,500.00.  Put Jesus at the top on your gift list and we will not have any problem in reaching it.
            Many of you have already given Jesus a Christmas gift by giving to send the Samaritan’s Purse shoe boxes to children around the world. We are sending 71 boxes.  Thank you for your support for this worthwhile effort to share Jesus with children.
            During Sunday morning worship services in December, I will be preaching on “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14).  We will consider Jesus’ dwelling with people such as Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, the magi, and even Herod. Jesus also dwells among us to bless us.  In addition, we are having a church-wide Children’s and Youth program on the evening of December 10 with a fellowship afterwards. On December 24, we have our Christmas Eve Lord’s Supper and Candlelight service at 5:00 p.m. Plan to join us for these times of worship and celebrate God’s inexpressible gift.
            I hope each of you have a joyous Christmas!
Your pastor, Ken Harmon
